Prior to the last quarterly meeting, the MHC was approached about a position on waterfowl hunting and the Legislative Committee recommended the issue be brought before the Board. The Executive Committee prepared and mailed a short survey to each MHC member to collect their opinions on the issue. Results of the 78 returned surveys, representing less than 10% of the MHC’s membership, were presented to the Board at the August 14th meeting. The results were followed by rich discussion of reasons to or not to take a position.
Many felt that more information was needed before an informed decision could be made, so a motion was approved to have each Board member contact their respective constituents to get a better sense of how members feel about the issue as well as the level of resources they feel MHC should invest.
A final discussion and vote will occur at the MHC Annual Meeting on November 13, 2018, in Annapolis.
Board members will be reaching out to you shortly. If you wish to contact your Board representative, see the list of Directors at https://mdhorsecouncil.org/about-us/governance/board-of-directors. In 2011, The Maryland Horse Council (MHC) established the Horse Council Political Action Committee (HCPAC) to further the priorities of the MHC in public forums. The PAC’s primary purpose is to promote the Maryland equine industry to Maryland government and the general public and financially support the campaigns of candidates for state office who support MHC’s policies.
The PAC is currently focused on the next election cycle (Jan 1, 2019 - Dec 31, 2022). There will be change, with new politicians having new agendas, including new views on Maryland horse issues.
Horse Council PAC contributions go into a fund distributed to the campaigns that the PAC selects after consultation with the MHC Executive Committee, Legislative Committee, and Board of Directors.
The current PAC includes Chairwoman Joanne Stone, Vice Chair Jane Seigler, Treasurer Erica Lancaster, and Committee members Christy Clagett, Royce Herman, and Valerie Ormond
Do you have equine-friendly state legislators you would like to support? If so, please provide the following information to email@example.com.
The PAC encourages all MHC members to contribute to the PAC fund. Running for public office is expensive, and candidates appreciate and remember their donors. Please give generously here to strengthen our collective voice in Annapolis.
